Brief Outline: Fast paced reconition game to learn the alphabet.

 

Materials Needed:

  • Chalkboard and chalk
  • A brush/eraser for each team

 

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Review the alphabet phonetically (Avocado alphabet). Advanced classes can use blends and so on.
  2. Divide students into groups. Anywhere from 2-6 groups will work.
  3. Line the teams up on the opposite side of the classroom facing the chalkboard.
  4. One student from each group gets a piece of chalk. In order, students run to the blackboard and write the alphabet according to what they hear.
  5. The teacher calls out a letter phonetically. The first student to write the letter gets a point for their team. Continue till the students lose interest or you have called all the letters.
  6. Erase the half-written letters.
  7. Have students tally up the points and ask which groups think they’ve won. When the team thinks they are the winner, tell them that the game isn't over. Hand out the brushes/ erasers to replace the chalk.
  8. One student from each group gets a brush/ eraser. The teacher calls out a letter phonetically. The first student to erase the letter gets a point for their team. Continue until the students lose interest or all the letters are erased.
