Brief Outline: Kids race to create the weather out of craft materials.

 

Materials Needed:

  • Coloured paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Construction paper (one for each team)
  • Cotton/wool (for clouds or snow)
  • Hand fan
  • Big leaves made of paper.

 

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Place the students into groups and line them up at the back of the classroom.
  2. Each group has a table at the front with the craft materials, hand fan and leaf. They also have a piece of construction paper. On the paper, draw big square boxes. When the ALT shouts a type of weather, one student from each group has to create that particular weather with the craft materials and affix it into the first box. For example, if "cloudy" is called out, one student from each group runs to the table, grabs the cotton and glue, and sticks the cotton down.  For 'windy', you might have the students come grab the fan & leaf, and start fanning the leaf with their team's fan back to their group. The group that completes the their task first receives a point.
  3. After the point has been awarded, the student rotates and the next round begins.

 

Teaching Suggestions:

  • Make creative ways for the students to practice the various types of weather: sunny, stormy, snowy, cloudy, windy, etc.
