Uno Scramble Submitted by: Kirsten Phillips Borrowed from or inspired by: Desperate measures Date added: 06/28/08 Edited by: まだ
Outline: Students win points for their team or themselves by collecting various numbered cards (1-10) called by the ALT. Procedure: - I played this game to practice colors and numbers with 1st grade but I guess it can be tweaked to use for months and dates for older grades. It's based on the child's game, Steal the Bacon.
- In a big room, gym or classroom (if done in a classroom, have the students move their desks to the side of the class), two teams line up facing each other. Assign each student on each team an alphabet letter. These letters are used to decide which team member goes up against the other team's member. Team 1's A-student goes against team 2's A-student, and so on.
- Scatter the Uno or playing cards between the two teacms face up. Make sure they were VERY randomly scattered. Then, play a practice round with the A-members by calling a number. The A-student who brings me the correct number card first received a point for their team...simple as that.
Teaching Suggestions: Variations: Cautions: It was very rowdy and a ton of fun. They loved it but it got very loud and it is best to make sure all the students are confident with the language first before this game or you risk one springing a leak. Since this is a very genki game, you might need to keep reminding kids to stay in one place while their team member was playing their round. Many of them may move forward into the card pooll to point and scream. This risks getting their fingers stepped on while their team mates search. If you feel like this is going to be a problem, deduct points for team members who leave their place before their turn.
