Brief Outline: A rhythm game to practice days of the week.

Materials Needed:

  • Days of the week flashcards (not included)

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Review the flash cards. Don't shuffle them (If not days of the week cards). Let the students get used to the order.
  2. Teach the students the beat to, 'We will Rock You." The beat is "clap, clap, stomp.'
  3. Start with one row and then work your way to the back.  Change rows and then work your way around while the students are clapping the beat. Make sure the students know what order they are going in beforehand.
  4. Students need to say the vocabulary immediately after the "stomp."
  5. If a student can't say the word or the vocabulary on time ( clap, clap, stomp.) then they have to sit down. However they should still continue making the beat and the next student will pick up where they left off.
  6. Last student standing wins.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • The clapping and stomping may throw some students off beat and distract them.  Remember to practice a few rounds before you start the game so no students will feel bad about messing up.

Comments:

  • (Dec 9, 2011) Shida said: I love the idea, but I agree that it needs to be a bit clearer where the day is meant to go. To me, it should come on the third beat of the phrase. "* * Monday! * * Tuesday!" rather than " * * _ Monday!" - it rushes the students and disjoints the rhythm so it STOPS being We Will Rock You!
I've also found it amuses my students when I speak the vowels of the start of the words (for example MUH MUH MONDAY). I use this as a level one for most of them before I let them start stomping, though I have one very hyper class where I try to keep the stomping to a minimum... they always try to go through the floor!
[For me, it's rhythmically more like "stomp-stomp clap" - BOOM-BOOM Tah! I'm a bit of a stickler... I have so many teachers who want to teach rhythmically but couldn't carry a rhythm in a bucket!!!]

What beat do you decide to put the day into......?

概要曜日の練習用リズムゲーム

必要な教材
  • 曜日のフラッシュカード (not included)
手順
  1. フラッシュカードで曜日の練習をしてください。カードは混ぜずに1週間の通常の順番で出して児童に慣れさせてください。
  2. Queenの「We will Rock You.」
