Brief Outline: Students match a famous person with the thing the famous person likes.

Materials Needed:

  • FamousIntros attachments: Famous People / Engli's Gallery / ReadyToPrintWrksht / Biographies. You'll need a poster of the famous people and the things they like, and a matching set of smaller cards for each of the people and their favorite items. You can use the attachments to make your own.

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Make a poster of ten or so famous people that your students will know. Make it so that right below each person there is one thing (this is what he/she likes). For example, Mr Obama with a cat below him; Spiderman with a dog; Snoopy with an ice cream, etc. Make sure the picture is obvious. Attach the poster to the blackboard.
  2. Make a separate mini-card for each: Mr Obama mini-card, Spiderman mini-card, Snoopy mini-card, etc. Make a separate set of mini-cards for items.
  3. Play concentration. Put all the mini-cards face down. When a student turns over a person mini-card, they must say, “My name is Mr Obama.” Then, they turn over a thing and read the card, (ie: “I like dogs.”). If the cards match (as on the poster) they get a point and an extra turn.

Variations:

  • You could assign extra points for some cards.
  • You could make "I don’t like..." cards by putting a big cross over the thing.
