Brief Outline

This is a very quick, easy, and energetic aerobic activity that practices direction vocabulary.

Detailed Explanation

  1. Teacher says "Copy me!" and then does a routine of aerobics while saying the actions in English: "Jump forward, jump back.  Jump left, jump right. Turn (or spin) left, turn (or spin) right. Jump down, jump up. Then, clap, clap, clap. Clap, clap, clap." The students should be amazed at how fast and amazing your routine is.
  2. Then, tell students to follow you one move at a time.
  3. Finally, do the routine as a group, starting slow and gradually speeding up.

Variations

  • Change the routine to whatever works for you: "Step left, step right. Stretch up, stretch down."

Tips/Cautions

  • Probably only works with classes willing to move their bodies.
  • Although I haven`t had any bad classes try this, I would guess even the bad students would probably be interested in this activity.

Jumping up into the air and landing in the squat position? Only for the nimble at heart...

What on Earth would jumping down entail?
