Brief Outline: Students play imaginary baseball in the classroom without using bats, balls, or bases.

 

Materials Needed:

  • Broom
  • Pencil case (use paper as a substitute)
  • Student desks (4)
  • A trash can (minus trash)

 

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Use a broom as a "bat,"  a pencil case as a "ball" and move four desks in a diamond shape to signify the bases.
  2. Have the pitcher, a student or you slide the pencil case across the floor to the "batter" (student) to sweep it away as far as they can.  If they miss three times they're out, but if they hit it they get to go to first base.
  3. Then the next person bats. However in order to get to second base, the student on first base must answer a question or identify a gesture by the opposite team. This can be prompted by the ALT or can be an original question made by the students. If the student on first base can't answer it, s/he is out.
  4. Naturally, points are awarded when a player makes it around all the bases, back to homeplate.
  5. Teams switch from asking/gesturing to batting every three outs.
  6. Finally using the trash can, turn it over on its side and place it somewhere in the "outfield".  This is the homerun option. If the students sweep the pencil case into the trashcan its an automatic homerun and anyone on base can skip the questions and run home. 

 

Tips/Cautions:

  • Stress safety. This game has danger written all over it.

  2.  ALTまたは指定された生徒はピッチャーになる。ピッチャーはバッターになった生徒に向かって床の上で筆箱を滑らせる。バッターは筆箱を打ち返せば1塁へ行けるが、３回打てなければアウトになる。
  3. そして、次の人がバッターとなる。1塁にいる生徒が２塁に行くには相手のチームのジェスチャーが何を意味するか答えるか、なにか質問に答えなければならない。もし答えられなかったらその生徒はアウトとなる。 質問はALTが作ってもいいし、生徒が自分達で作ってもいい。
  4. 各生徒はホーム・プレートに帰るとポイントをもらう。
  5. チームが三振に打ちとられたら相手チームと位置を変わる。
  6. 最後にゴミ箱の用途だが、ゴミ箱を横にして教室の何処か外野と思われる場所に置く。これがホームランの場所になる。もしバッターがゴミ箱にほうきで筆箱を滑り込ませることができたら自動的にホームランということになり、塁にいる生徒は全員質問に答えずにホーム・プレートに帰ることができる。
