Colour Change
Submitted by: Raymond Corrigan     Borrowed from or inspired by: Name Card games     Date added: 2/4/2010   Edited by: Joyce P. Le

Outline: Students collect all the colours by walking around and talking to each other.

Materials Needed:
  • 10 business card-sized colour cards per student.
  • Sort each colour into 10 card piles and tie a set of colours together with an elastic band

Procedure:
  1. Give each student a pile of 10 cards with the same colour.
  2. Students find a partner.
  3. Student A says "(colour) please."  Student B gives student A the colour and says "(colour) please."  Student A gives student B the colour and both students say, "goodbye."
  4. The goal is to collect every colour.
  5. To make the game last longer, stop the game and tell the students to collect the same colour cards.

Teaching Suggestions:
  •  Create a scenario where you pretend to be sad because you only own one colour.  With the HRT, show students that the more cards you collect, the happier you'll get.  Then show students that you want to collect different colours.

Variations:

  • Introduction Meishi: Use the colour cards as business cards in a self introductions class.
  • Use this game with:
    1. A: What colour do you like/want? B: I like/want _____.
    2. A: What`s your favourite colour?
  • Students can play janken and only the winners get the card.  The goal is still try to collect the most cards.

Cautions:

  • This game is good for elementary school grades 1, 2 and 3. It is not competitive so nobody loses and gets upset!
