Brief Outline: Help students practice their colours and the names of places around the school with this fun game.

Materials Needed:

• ColourScavenerHunt attachment: Includes a 'hunt list' and 'reporting worksheet' (for higher level classes)
• Flashcards for review (not included)
• Baskets to put things in
• Dictionary: For those strange objects students find.

Detailed Explanation:

1. Start by reviewing the words that you want to practice with this game: colours, places in the school, classroom objects, etc. Use flashcards if you want.
2. Practice round (Divide children into groups of 3-4 now, for smaller classes after is okay)
3. Tell the students that you want their help finding something. Hold up a distinctive object of a bright colour, I usually use my bright purple sneakers. Ask them the colour and what it is. In this case, "It's a purple shoe!"
4. Tell them to stand up and bring you something purple, or bring you something as a group if the class is large.
5. After about 5 minutes of frantic searching tell them to go and sit back down. Then go through the items one by one naming the colour and what it is until the kids get the hang of it.
6. If you want to practice prepositions, ask the students where they found the object: "In the desk, on the bookshelf, etc.
7. Hand out a Scavenger Hunt list, one per group, and explain that they must find one of everything on the list and bring it back to the classroom. It's also good to remind them to remember where they got all the stuff: 1.) Because they might need the information if you do the reporting activity, and 2.) Because they have to put it back after the activity. 
8. Set them loose in their groups to find stuff!
9. They should be done in about 10-15 minutes. Use the rest of the time to have the groups report what they found and where, either verbally or have them write it down and then report.
10. Leave enough time to return all the objects to their original location.

Teaching Suggestions:

• The dynamics of this activity are very different for large and small classes, so it's probably good to think about how you will manage the larger groups and how the presenting will work.
• Higher level classes really enjoy filling out the reporting worksheet so let them go with it.
• It's often fun to look up in a dictionary the names of some of the stranger things they bring back if the class is small enough and you have the time.

Tips/Cautions:

• This activity often gets quite noisy so talk with your teachers about where is the best place to do this. Meaning, whether or not it's practical to have the run of the school or if it should be confined to the classroom.
