Brief Outline: Students race to put the right time on the clock.

Materials Needed:

  • Two toy clocks with moveable hands (Your school might have some. If not, make them out of cardboard or use the blackboard).

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Have four students come to the front of the class and form two pairs.
  2. Give each pair a clock and tell them to look at the class and not at the blackboard.
  3. Draw a clock with a time on the blackboard. The four students have the following conversation with the class.
Four students: "What time is it?"
Class: "It`s __:__." (Time on the blackboard)
  4. The two pairs race to set their toy clocks to the time the class said.
  5. Congratulate the pairs and repeat from Step One until all students have played.

Variations:

  • Team variation:
    1. Students sit down in their lunch teams, each team has a toy clock.
    2. The teams` first students are the only students allowed to touch the clock this turn.
    3. Teams ask "What time is it", the ALT responds "It`s __:__."
    4. Team members help the first students in English. The first students stand up when they have entered the right time.
    5. Repeat from Step Two with the second students.

Tips/Cautions:

  • Be careful of students looking at the blackboard.
