Brief Outline: Students design a soccer shirt using 2-3 colors, then ask their friends what color their shirt is.

Materials Needed:

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Handout the design a jersey worksheet and show the kids a few soccer shirts and ask them what color they are.
  2. Have them use 2-3 colors to design their own t-shirt. It takes about 7-8 minutes to color it in.
  3. When the students have finished coloring, they have to ask 5 friends about the soccer shirt they have designed using the key phrase: "What color is this?" The student listens to the answer and circles the colors of the shirt on the worksheet.
  4. When they've finished you can do a bit of feedback by asking, "Kenta's jersey, what color is this?" and people who interviewed Kenta can put their hands up and answer.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • Before doing the activity, I played the Touch Me If You Can! and Hide Billy game.
  • This lesson followed my lesson on 'How are you?' where we played the Gokiburi game (a.k.a. Shinka). It was really loud and exciting so I wanted to do something a little more laid back for this lesson. The teacher had given me the key phrase for the lesson: "What color is this?"

  • (Sept 5, 2011) Sreknaw said: Well I must admit this does sound interesting. Almost
all of my male students play or like soccer, so this seems like a
nice game to keep them motivated. Also they it will settle them so they don't
kick real soccer balls in class hehe. Before the class we usually do a warmup
everyday which gets them into the flow of the class. This could follow the warmup and
    really get them motivated.
