Brief Outline: Students practice inviting people out over the telephone
Materials Needed:
Detailed Explanation:
- Teachers will drill activities and positive feelings using flash cards.
- Teachers explain that students are going to make a phone call to invite a friend out and that the friend will accept the invitation.
- ALT demonstrates with JTE.
- ALL students practice the drill by listening and repeating.
- Teacers can choose a student to demonstrate.
- Students in the left rows will be the receiver.
- Students in the right rows will be the caller.
- Students will be placed back-to-back.
- The caller will think of and circle an activity and feeling to use.
- Students will move along the column (clockwise direction) practicing the dialogue with 5 or 6 students.
- The receiver will take a note of the activity and time given from the caller.
- The caller and receiver will only move to the next seat when they have completed the dialogue.
- When the students return home then they are finished.
Teaching Suggestions:
- Use the telephone/whisper game as a warm up activity.
- Try to make the activity more fun by asking students to talk more slowly or quicker or to act out expressions while practicing the dialogue.
