Brief Outline: Students match a description to a picture of Halloween characters and write the sentence, changing the verb to a 3rd person singular form.

Materials Needed:

  • HalloweenCharacterMatch worksheet
  • Characters (not included): Check the worksheet for the characters you'll need.  Start this activity with an introduction of the characters you find on the net.

Detailed Explanation:

  1. After passing out the worksheet, model a dialog for the students with the JTE:
    • ALT: Does a pumpkin fly on a broom?
    • JTE: No, it doesn't.  Does a pumpkin come from a garden?
    • ALT: Yes, it does.
  2. Write the sentence on the board, reminding the students to add an "s" to the verb: "The pumpkin comeS from a garden."
  3. Then, test the students' knowledge of various 3rd person verb plurals.
  4. Finally, give students 4-5 minutes to finish the rest of the sentences. Call five volunteers to the board to write the sentences on the chalkboard.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • For Special Needs classes, have the students work together and allow them the option to draw a line to the hints located above on the worksheets.
