Brief Outline: Students take turns asking each other why they have various things in certain locations.
Materials Needed:
Detailed Explanation:
- Choose a genki student who is willing to play along and ask for their bag, or bring a bag of your own. Empty the contents of the bag and ask about one of the items in the bag: "Why do you have a book in your bag?" The student must answer, "Because...".
- Then, split the class into groups of 4-6 students and have them take turns asking each other why they have certain things in certain locations: "Why do you have a pencil in your pencil case?"
Variations:
- If you want to practice writing, after you finish with the activity, have the students open their notebooks and practice writing their various responses IN FULL SENTENCES: I have a math book in my bag because I am going to study math.
Tips/Cautions:
- If you think the class is shy, use the JTE for the first example: "What do you have natto in your bag?" The JTE should respond with something like, "Because I want to eat it."
