Brief Outline: Students write a diary based on various nursery rhymes.

Materials Needed:

  • A handout of all the nursery rhymes (not included)

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Let the students know different nursery rhymes, like: Mary Had a Little Lamb, Little Miss Muffet, Humpty Dumpty etc.  You could even type it out for them so that they can read them.
  2. Explain to them they have to take a character of one of the nursery rhymes and write a diary from the standpoint of one of the characters in the rhyme. Let's say for example the student chose Mary Had a Little Lamb, the character that they could write a diary of is the 'little lamb'. So the diary entry might go like, "Dear Diary, Why does Mary have to carry me around with her everywhere? I hate the school she takes me to."

Cautions:

  • This activity is more for the advanced students maybe grade three elective classes, depending on how smart your kids are.
