Brief Outline: Students have to memorize a picture and answer questions about it using Past Progressive Verbs.

Materials Needed:

  • You need a couple of pictures that have a lot going on in it, for example: Park Life or Beach Description.  However, you could easily use any picture in a magazine, comic, etc.

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Have the students split into groups and hand out a picture to each group.
  2. Allow them to study the picture for 2-3 minutes and then turn it over so that it's facedown.
  3. Then, ask the students questions about the picture.  For example, if you use the Park Life attachment, you could ask them things like:
    • Was there a boy fishing?
    • Were there two people riding a bike?
    • Were there many people playing?
    • How many people were running?
  4. Students who know can raise their hand and answer using a Past Progressive sentence.

Variations:

  • For larger classes, you might turn this activity into a writing exercise where students write the answers instead of saying them.
