Brief Outline: Students ask present perfect questions to find out their partner's seceret character.

Materials Needed:

Detailed Explanation:

  1. After giving one worksheet to each student, break the class into pairs.
  2. Students secretly choose a character then janken to see who starts first.
  3. Student A starts by asking a Present Perfect question: "Have you been in Japan for 2 years?" Student B answers accordingly: "Yes, I have." or "No, I have not."
  4. Students switch roles.
  5. Game continues until both students have figured out each other's character.

Variations:

  • You can allow students to play more than one round and/or switch partners.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • My 3rd year students who are usually too-cool-for-school actually enjoyed it. They went on to find new parnters and played multiple rounds without having to be prompted or coerced.
