Brief Outline:  This is a simple listening activity to review the months of the year and questions: 'Where are you from?' and 'What's your name?'

Materials Needed

  • FamousBirthdays worksheet - one per student

Detailed Explanation:

  1. You/JTE ask questions to various students about where a famous person is from and the month of their birthday.  The rest of the class has to listen to the answers and connect the dots on their worksheet.
  2. You should model the first one with the JTE:
    1. Q: What is your name?
    2. A: My name is Ichiro.
    3. Q: Where are you from?
    4. A: I am from New Zealand.  (Note: using alternative countries than the person's real country ensures the students are focused on listening.)
    5. Q: When is your birthday?
    6. A: My birthday is in May.
  3. When finished, check the students properly connected the pics on their worksheet by asking them questions: Where is Ichiro from? When is Ichiro's birthday? etc.

Variations:

  • This activity can also be done in pairs or small groups.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • Occasionally, walk around and check to see if the students are answering correctly.
