Brief Outline: This activity brings a new twist to the game Bingo while practicing spelling new target vocabulary words.

Detailed Explanation:
I received this game from my JTE who uses it regularly in her classes as a method of practicing spelling. Prior to class, you need to prepare MyJTEsIdea worksheet by filling it in with the target vocabulary you are wanting to practice.
Hand out a worksheet to each student and have them write the target vocab words in random the boxes in the bingo area. This should only take 2-3 minutes.
Then, the class starts playing Bingo, but unlike the original game, the object of this Bingo game is to NOT receive bingos.
This game has added effect if you use a point system in your classes. Start the game by writing the number "30" on the chalkboard. This number represents the points a student receives if they should bingo. This number can be changed based upon your respective point system.
The game begins by the ALT/JTE taking turns calling out random words from the target vocab list. When a student receives a bingo (horizontally, vertically or diagonally), they raise their hand, write the points in the score section of their worksheet and the "30" is slashed out and "29" is written. The same student can keep receiving points for additional bingos. Also, if there is more than one hand raised, simply give all those students points.
Keep playing until a certain number of bingos have reached.
Remember, when I said the object is to NOT receive bingos? Students who weren't able to bingo receive 100 points! This makes it so everybody is a winner! :)
Variations: - To make the game more difficult, erase the section of the worksheet where you would have written in the target vocabulary. Instead, say the words in class and have the students write them into the boxes and the bingos they receive are only valid if every word in that particular bingo line is correct. Or, make it so they receive the points but they can receive bonus points if all the words in their bingo are spelled correctly.
