Brief Outline: Students test their memory by looking at a picture and in prepositional phrase form, writing what they saw.
Materials Needed:
- GoodWitness picture: Or, you can find some other ideas in the Misc. area of the General Games page. NOTE: I think it would be a good idea for the picture to show people and objects in a setting. Make sure you make enough copies of the picture so that every 4-6 students can share a picture.
Detailed Explanation:
- Hand out the picture to each group. Have them study it for a couple of minutes and then have them return it.
- Then, have them open their notebooks and write everything they can remember about the picture, keeping in mind this activity is to practice prepositional phrases: in, on, under, next to, by, on top of, etc.
- Once they have finished, ask for various volunteers to read a sentence they wrote. I think it's important not to negate any sentences that are inaccurate because it could have the potential to mess with the student's confidence. For more reserved classes, instead of students sharing with the class, you might have them break into pairs to share what they remember from the picture.
Variations:
- If you think your class will be interested in this type of activity, prepare more than one picture for them, keeping in mind to only show one picture at a time.
