Guess Me

GRAMMAR: 'Be' Helping Verb     EXAMPLE: Are you from Japan?     DATE ADDED: 06-30-09

05-15 min.

Brief Outline: Students ask five questions and guess the secret identity of their group members.

Materials Needed:

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Drill key words: thirsty, hungry, tall, short, Japan, boy, girl.
  2. Drill names, discuss and make it clear which names are Japanese.
  3. Model the game with the Japanese teacher.
  4. Play in groups.

Variations:

  • Higher grades can ask different questions, like, "Do you have long hair?" or "Are you ugly?"

Teaching Suggestions:

  • Use the smart kids to get the ball rolling. The fun point of the game is where students have to guess the identity.
  • This goes well with Describe Them.

Tips/Cautions:

  • Expect a slow start. No all of them will understand. The ones that do, really enjoy the game and things go organically after that.
