Brief Outline: A ice-breaking bingo game for 1st year JHS students that practices the 'do' helping verb.

Materials Needed:

Detailed Explanation:

  1. The goal is to get a bingo on the bingo board (five in a straight line on most of the boards above). Students can get one "yes" answer from each student, then move on to another. A "yes"answer means that Student1 asked Student2 a question from the game board and Student2 answered "yes". Students write the name of the "yes person" on the square. This is meant to get them moving around more.
  2. There is a vocabulary box at the bottom of the Simon's worksheet. It is not for katakana but for students to write a definition of the terms in Japanese. The goal is to prevent them from wandering around going, "I don't understand the vocabulary." Delete it if you dont like it.

Variations:

  • Instead of seeking out 'yes' students, students sign the sheet regardless of their answers.  After the students receive 12 signatures, they return to their seat. Once everybody has finished, using the class roster, randomly call students names. If their bingo sheet has that student's name, they mark that square with an X. The first person to make a bingo wins.
