Brief Outline: A look at the picture. Guess what it is. Make a sentence. Race.

Materials Needed:

Detailed Explanation:

  1. After dividing the class into six teams, give each team a handout and go over the sentence formulation at the top of it and the adjectives at the bottom.
  2. The activity starts by groups racing to write ten sentences on their handout.
  3. Let the students know that the "This is a..." sentence is not worth any points, but the "It looks..." one is worth two points.
  4. If the students use the adjectives from the hand out, it is worth one point. If the students use an adjective from the dictionary or one from the top of their head it is worth two points.
  5. The first team to finish the handout receives five bonus points, the second team gets four bonus points, and so on.
  6. The team that gets the most points wins.

Variations:

  • I only used the first ten of Raegina's cards but there are 12 cards altogether.

Tips/Cautions:

  • Stress that the "This is a..." sentence isn`t worth anything. The students could end up wasting the whole class on the first few cards.
