Brief Outline: Students listen to the song "Lemon Tree" by Fool's Garden, and fill in the blanks.

Materials Needed:

  • Copy of the song (not included)
  • LemonTree worksheet: One copy for each student

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Play the song and have students just listen.
  2. Give out a copy of the worksheet to each student and let them read through it once.
  3. Play the song again and have students fill in the blanks. You may need to do this a couple of times.
  4. Go through the answers.
  5. Talk about some of the imagery or ideas in the song.
  6. Have students identify and write the adjectives/verbs on the second page of the worksheet.

Variations:

  • To make this into a longer activity, create a wordfind or crossword.
  • For higher-level classes, take out the list of words and have them try to fill in the worksheet just by listening.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • I've used this with a Grade 2 JHS elective English class as well as with adult eikaiwa classes.
