Brief Outline: Students present a mini-speech to their partner and play Janken to hopefully receive a signature.

 

Materials Needed:

 

Detailed Explanation:

  1. After giving each student a handout, have them stand up, mingle and find a partner.
  2. One student in the pair recites their mini-speech to their partner. Switch roles and repeat.
  3. Then, have the pair play Janken. The winner gets their handout signed by the loser.
  4. The pair splits and finds new partners.
  5. When a student receives five signatures, they return to their seat.

 

Teaching Suggestions:

  • I have found that students like to sign their names using Western-style name order, so you might encourage your class to do the same.

 

Tips/Cautions:

  • This activity works with younger students (ES students) and first grade JHS students. I haven't done this with older students yet.
