Brief Outline: Students try to level-up their ninja abilities by creating comparative sentences to receive chances to shoot shurikens at a bullseye on the chalkboard. Materials Needed
- NinjaGaiden worksheet
- Suction-cup shurikens - they can be found at your local 100 yen shop.
Preparation Needed:
Before class, have a student draw a decent size bullseye target on the chalkboard and have them assign each color of the bullseye a point value. The value isn't that important.
Detailed Explanation:
Split the class into groups of 3. Each group receives a worksheet and the students write their names on it.
The object of the game is to try and receive as many points as possible. To receive points each member of the group must complete a level in order to shoot one to two shurikens at the bullseye.
The first person from each group comes to the ALT/JTE and is given an adjective (形容詞) and noun (名詞).
Upon returning to their groups, they write down the two words and try to form a comparative sentence using the level's comparative target: level one = ~er, level two = ~est, etc.
When they think they have formed a sentence, they come to the teachers and say the sentence. The team members can help each other form the sentence but can't SAY the sentence for them when they are saying it to the teachers.
If correct, and after checking the two words for spelling errors, the teachers sign their sheet and give them the next two words.
Variations: - Instead of a bullseye, have students draw different size people on the chalkboard -- the smaller the person equals more points.

Cautions:
- Some students might think the ninja star is a baseball and think the harder they throw it the better chance of sticking to the chalkboard they have. This will break the shurikens.
- Sometimes lines form with students waiting to shoot. If you foresee this happening, allow each student to only take ONE shot.
- Be careful once the students reach 'Level 5' because they start choosing their own nouns, 'Level 6' their own adjectives and 'Level 7' they choose both words on their own.
