Brief Outline: This is a vocabulary review in the shape of a crossword puzzle.
Materials Needed:
- ReviewCrossword worksheet - there are three different crosswords, each practices a different grade and/or unit.
Detailed Explanation:
- Simply hand out the worksheet and have the students begin filling it out. There is no explanation needed, except to remind the students they shouldn't reference their textbooks. The purpose of this activity is test if the students have actually learned the vocabulary words and can spell them correctly without the crutch of the textbook.
Teaching Suggestions:
- There are sometimes irrelevant but easy words stuck in the puzzles for the sake of the puzzle or to help them get hints for difficult words
- This activity was created based upon the Sunshine English textbook series and uses all the bold words which the students are required to know. However, these words are supposedly consistent throughout all the textbooks.
Variations:
- Make the hints into questions rather than just direct difinitions.
- Add more/less words to suit your chapters.
- For lower-level classes, allow the students to work in pairs or groups.
