Sentence Challenge

Brief Outline: Each student is given seperate words from a sentence. They have to work as a team to put the sentence together.

 

Materials Needed:

 

Detailed Explanation:

  1. After students form groups of four, they decide their group's individual order.
  2. Each group is given a worksheet.
  3. The ALT chooses a sentence from the textbook and tells the students to go to sleep. NOTE: Have them put their heads down on their desks so there can't be any cheating.
  4. Write one of the words from the sentence on the blackboard and instruct all Number 1 students to wake up, memorize the word and go back to sleep.
  5. Continue this process until the entire sentence has been given out. NOTE: Some students will receive more than one word.
  6. Finally, have all the students wake up and as a group they try to put the sentence together and write the completed sentence on their group's worksheet. When they have written the sentence, they need to find what page the sentence is on in their textbook.
  7. The first group to raise their hand and tell the teacher the page number receives a point, but not before someone in their group reading the sentence aloud.

 

Tips/Cautions:

  • Make sure the students only have the worksheet and one textbook on their desks.
  • Watch for students who will try to write down the word they have been given.

  • (July 11, 2011) Anonymous said: I play a game similar to this, but the words are all cut up and put into envelopes. There are usually 8 teams and 10 envelopes. The sudents must complete the 10 sentences in the envelopes.
