Brief Outline: Students ask each other questions and talk about their summer vacation in the past tense, while playing interview Janken, of course!

Materials Needed:

  • SummerPastTenseJanken worksheet: Make as many copies of the worksheet as you need. The average is about three cards per student.

Detailed Explanation:

  1. After handing out three cards to each student, have them fill out the cards with an adjective and past tense verb: "My summer vacation was FUN. I STUDIED." or "My summer vacation was BORING. I WATCHED TV."
  2. Then, the students stand up and interview each other:
    • A: How was your summer vacation?
    • B: It was sweet. I played games.
    • How was your summer vacation?
    • It was fun. I swam.
  3. Then the pair plays Janken and the winner receives their opponent's card.
  4. Students continue with other partners until time is up or they run out of cards and sit down.

Variations:

  • The ALT can open the card "bank" and offer students a second chance to fill out more cards and try again should they run out of cards.
