Brief Outline: Students learn how to read their teachers’ names in English and practice using verb plurals.
Materials Needed:
Detailed Explanation:
Read and repeat each verb with students. Teachers should consider using the 1st person, 2nd person & 3rd person conjunctions to show students the differences.
Make sure students know which pronoun to use for man and woman. Then explain to students that they are to write the correct pronoun + a verb of their choice for each of the names listed. Remind students to not show their answers to anyone.
Have students find a partner or pair up with the student next to them. Have students write their partner’s name on the “my friend’s name is” area. Then as an example with the teacher, show students how to play the game.
How to play: The object of the game is to find out what verb the other person wrote down for the names listed. Students have 3 chances to guess. Student A will guess, “Ms. X -- she talks” and if student B have “she talks” for teacher X then student B will say “yes.” If not, student B will say “no” and student A will continue guessing until student A finishes his/her 3 chances. Then student B will guess and student A will answer. Have students rotate back and forth after every name.
For higher level classes, encourage students to use complete sentences. Instead of saying, “She works,” say “She works everyday” or “she works in a restaurant.” If students are able to guess their partner’s answer, then they will write “YES” (or put a circle) on the last column. If they are not able to by the end of the 3rd try, then they will write “NO” (or put a X) on the last column.
Crossword Puzzle: The object of this crossword puzzle is for students to learn how to spell & understand the verbs (or learn how to use their worksheet as a cheat sheet).
