Detailed Explanation:

1. Demonstrate the conversation pattern outlined in step 3 with the JTE, and then with some random students.
2. Ask the class, "Who do you think is better, Doraemon or Hello Kitty?"
3. Students roam around, find a partner and play Janken. The winner becomes A.
• A: "I think Doraemon is better than Hello Kitty." (or vice-versa)
• B: "I agree"/"I disagree" (I think so, too./I don`t think so.)
4. If B agrees with A, they form a team and repeat this step together. If B disagrees with A, they repeat this step alone.
5. When there are only two teams left, Doraemon supporters and Hello Kitty supporters count the numbers in each group to decide the winner.
6. Repeat from step 2 with a new question.  Some questions can include:
• Which is better, curry or sushi?
• Who is stronger, Atomu or Superman?
• Which is better, summer or spring?
• Which is harder, English or math?
• Who is funnier, (famous comedian 1) or (famous comedian 2)?

Variations:

• For super shy classes, instead of forming teams by playing Janken, have students go to opposite sides of the room when you ask the question: "Who do you think is better, Doraemon or Hello Kitty?"  For example, Doraemon supporters go the left of the class while the Hello Kitty fans go to the right.

Teaching Suggestions:

• If students are shy (quite likely) have them do step 3 in pairs before having them stand up and roam around.

Tips/Cautions:

• This game might be difficult if your class has over 20 students.
