Brief Outline: This is a guess who-it-is game to practise present perfect verbs.

 

Materials Needed:

  • Scrap paper: One for each student, and cutting the paper into strips works the best.

 

Detailed Explanation:

  1. After handing out the strips of paper, write "I have ..." on the chalkboard.
  2. Ask the students to give you some verbs. You could make this into a mini-activity where you make teams and give a point to each team who says a verb and/or translates it into Japanese.
  3. Show how the verb after the helping verb "have" gets changed to the past participle: "I have played basketball for 10 years."  Also, point out to the students the irregular verbs, which are the verbs that when changed to the past participle require a word change instead of addition of "-ed": I have dreamt every night for five years.
  4. Then, have the students write a "I have..." sentence on their strip of paper.
  5. Collect all the strips and read a strip and ask the students if they know who wrote it.
  6. Reward the student/team who guesses correctly.  NOTE: the student who wrote the sentence can't guess.
