Brief Outline: In this Hot Potato style game, students answer questions written on chopsticks.

Materials Needed:

  • Chopsticks with review questions written on them
  • A milk bottle.
  • Music of your choice.

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Get the students to stand up.
  2. Start the music and let the students pass around the milk bottle with the hashi in it.
  3. When the music stops, the student with the milk bottle has to take out a chopstick and choose one of his/her buddies to read the question on the chopstick to.
  4. If the chosen student gets the answer to the question right, the student who read the question and the student who answered the question sits down.
  5. If the student answers wrong, the student who asked the question and that student have to remain standing. Plus, the student who answered wrong has to choose one student who is sitting down to stand up again.
  6. Repeat.
  7. The objective is not to be the last student standing. This game rarely gets that far.

Variations:

  • You don't have to use a milk bottle; you can play using the classic Hot Potato style.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • This game is also good as a review activity.

Tips/Cautions:

  • I use the milk bottle from the school lunch. It tends to be tough but I would be careful.
