Bear's Clothes

Outline: Students listen to a story and must dress their bear in the appropriate clothing.
 
Teaching Suggestions:
  • The story is suggeested to be read in English.  Prior to the story, students don't need to know the grammar in the story but they should know colors, seasons and weather words.
 
Procedure:
  1. Give each student a copy of the worksheet below.  The students color the pictures based upon the color you explain.  Cut out the bear articles of clothing.
  2. Next, you need to reinforce the back of the bear to support changing of its clothes.  Disposable chopsticks and glue work well. 
  3. Then, read the story very slowly and have the students dress their bears accordingly.  Have the HRT check the bears after each change of clothes.
  4. Story:
    • "It is summer. Bear is going to a friend’s house.  What is bear going to wear?"
    • "It is autumn. It is windy. Bear is going to school. What is bear going to wear?"
    • "It is winter. It is cold and snow is blowing. Today, bear is going to make a snowman. What is bear going to wear?"
    • "It is spring. The weather is fine. It is a friend’s birthday. Bear is going to a party. What is bear going to wear?"

 

Variations:

  • It doesn't focus on English, but for younger groups, the story can be read in Japanese:
    • "Natsu desu.  Kuma wa tomodachi no uchi ni ikimasu.  Kuma wa nani o kitara ii de sho ka?"
    • "Aki desu.  Kaze wa tsuyoi desu.  Kuma wa shogakko ni ikimasu. Kuma wa nani o kitara ii de sho ka?"
    • "Fuyu desu.  Samui desu ne!  Hubuki desu ne!  Kuma wa yukidaruma o tsukurimasu. Kuma wa nani o kitara ii de sho ka?"
    • "Haru desu.  Kyo wa ii tenki desu.  Tomodachi no tanjobi desu.  Kuma wa patii ni ikimasu. Kuma wa nani o kitara ii de sho ka?"

概要: 物語を聞きとって、生徒は熊に正しい服を着せます。
 
推薦を教えること:
  • 物語は英語で話しましょう。生徒が物語に出てくる文法を知っている必要はありませんが、色や季節や天気の言葉などは前もって知っておく必要があります。

手順:

  1. 生徒ひとりひとりに下記の物語のワークシートを渡す。生徒はALTが言うとおりの色を熊の服の絵に塗って切りとる。
  2. 次に、洋服を着せ替えるのに耐えられるように、熊の後ろ側を厚地で補強する。割箸と、のりを使うといい。
  3. それから、物語をゆっくり読む。生徒は物語どおりに熊に正しい服を着せる。HRTは熊が服を着るたびにチェックする。 
  4. 物語:
    • "It is summer. Bear is going to a friend’s house.  What is bear going to wear?"
    • "It is autumn. It is windy. Bear is going to school. What is bear going to wear?"
    • "It is winter. It is cold and snow is blowing. Today, bear is going to make a snowman. What is bear going to wear?"
    • "It is spring. The weather is fine. It is a friend’s birthday. Bear is going to a party. What is bear going to wear?"

変形:

  • 低学年生徒のために日本語で物語を話してもいいです:
    • 夏です。熊は友達の家に行きます。熊は何を着たらいいでしょうか。
    • 秋です。風は強いです。熊は小学校に行きます。熊は何を着たらいいでしょうか。
    • 冬です。寒いですね！吹雪ですね！熊は雪だるまを作ります。熊は何を着たらいいでしょうか。
    • 春です。今日はいい天気です。友達の誕生日です。熊はパーティーに行きます。熊は何を着たらいいでしょうか。
