Body Alphabet
Outline: Students form letters of the alphabet using their bodies.
Teaching Suggestions:
Procedure:
While the students are clearing their desks to the sides of the classroom, write the alphabet on the chalkboard as a visual aid.
Say a letter and have the students form the letter with their body. If the students don't know the letter, point to the visual aid on the chalkboard.
Variations:
Try singing the alphabet song while making letter gestures in slow motion.
Split students into groups of 3-4 to make various letters using all the members of the group.
Have the class work together to form students' names in
romaji.
Take pictures when the students form the alphabet and their names and have the teacher hang the pictures on the classroom wall. Making English more personal for the student could help the students have more motivation.
