Brief Outline: Students guess how many objects you have in your hand or a box.
Materials Needed (not included):
Small countable objects that can be held in you hand or kept in a small box. (e.g. dice, small plastic animals, coins, etc)
Detailed Explanation:
- Split the class into small groups.
- Grab a handful of the objects and ask, “How many?”
- Give hints. Shake the objects in your hand or show them for an instant.
- Have each group makes a guess. The HRT writes their guesses on the board.
- After every team has guessed, count out the objects in your hand, one by one and have the students count with you.
- Give points for the closest group, and lots of points for an exact guess.
