Brief Outline: Students draw and cutout shapes according to the ALT’s directions to make family dolls.

 

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Give students blank papers. Two pieces should be enough.
  2. ALT says a shape and students will repeat the word and draw the shape. Keep in mind the shapes are to be cut out and put together to form a human paper doll, therefore do not choose random shapes without considering it to be part of the body part.
  3. When the students have drawn all the shapes, have them cut the shapes out and form a person.
  4. After they paste the shapes together, have them add detail to their family member with their pencils.
  5. Finally, have the students intoduce their family members with the phrase, "This is my ~ ."

 

Variations:

  • Make a whole family of paper dolls.
  • Try making other things besides people (e.g. cartoon characters, monsters, friends, famous people, etc).
  • It is fun to not tell the students what you're doing, but tell them to cut out one 'red' circle (so their sizes will all be different).  Then four (or two) blue rectangles (arms with or without joints), etc. Once they have all the shapes cut out, then you tell them the blue rectangles are for a body, the red circle is for a head. 変形：

  • 人形で家族全員を作ります。
  • 人間以外の物も作ってみましょう。例えば漫画の登場人物や怪物、友達や有名な人物を使ってみます。
