Outline: Students form numbered groups based upon the number they are given.
 
Teaching Suggestions:
  • It is highly recommended to clear the desks/
    chairs to the sides of the classroom.
  • Have the HRT join groups when necessary.

 

Procedure:
  1. Call out a number within the target set and have the students form groups based upon that number.  When they form their groups, have them sit down.
  2. Practice this for awhile, then start the game.
  3. Students that can't form the target number are out.  If the competition is too much, take this option out of the game.

 

Variations:

  • Try math problems.  Give the students a simple problem and have them form numbered groups based on the answer.  For example, students would form groups of 7 if they were given the problem '3 + 4.'

    all out, "zero" and see what the students do.  This might be a great way to end the game.
