Brief Outline: Students raise/lower their hands based upon what you say versus your actions.

 

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Don't explain anything. Just tell the students to raise their hands, while doing an arm-raising motion with your own hand.  It is inevitable one or two students will understand what you are wanting them to do. Then, have them lower their hands using this same method.
  2. Explain what the name of the game means.  'Boom' means the quickness at which the students raise/lower their hands.  What can make or break this game for you is the sound effects.  A 'boom' action must also be followed by a 'boom' sound.  Also, show them slow responses are frowned upon.  Slow actions shoud also be accompanied by sound effects.
  3. Practice this until the students seem confident, then explain to them to listen to your words and not your actions.  Tell them sometimes you are going to lie and your actions will not correspond to your directions, but they should listen to your words.
  4. Practice this for awhile, then start the game.  The game is simple; students that make a mistake sit down and the last student standing is the winner.

 

Variations:
