Leg Race
Submitted byElem ALT team     Borrowed or inspired fromwww.genkienglish.com

Outline: This is a listening game where students race through a barrage of legs based upon the number called.

Teaching Suggestions:
  • The gym is strongly recommended.  If this is not an option, ask the teacher to move all the students' desks and chairs to the sides of the classroom.

Procedure:
  1. Students form two parallel lines, sitting on the floor facing each other, legs stretched out and feet touching.  Have the students take off their shoes to prevent injuries.
Each pair of students is assigned a number.
  2. Call out a number. The pair whose number was called must stand up and make their way through the gauntlet of legs without touching them.  Warn the seated students they will lose points if they interfere with the race.  The direction through the gauntlet the student travels doesn't matter because when the student reaches the end, they must run around the backside of seated students and re-enter the gauntlet from the opposite side, making their way back to their original position and sit down.  T
he first student to complete the race receives a point.
  3. Play the game until everyone has had at least one chance to race.

Variations:

  • Call out multiple numbers at a same time and watch the mayhem unfold.
