Original Juice Outline: Students decide on a recipe then go shopping for ingredients to make their very own Original Juice. Teaching Suggestions: Procedure: Tell the students they are going to create their own 'original juice.' This should peak their curiousity. Give each student or group a recipe worksheet. Before they start thinking about the ingredients their juice will include, practice saying each ingredient's name a couple times. - Then, have the students think about and decide the number of each ingredient they will use for their very own recipe and write it on their recipe worksheet. You might need to set a limit for the total number of items students can have in their recipe. Ten works well, for example, 3 apples, 2 bananas, 4 strawberries, and 1 lemon.
- Once students have decided their recipe they can go around to the teachers for the ingredients they need. Each teacher should have different ingredient cards so the students can’t get everything from just one teacher.
- The conversation should go something like this:
- Student: Apple, please.
- Teacher: How many?
- Student: Three, please.
- Teacher: Here you are.
- Student: Thank you.
- Once the students gather their entire recipe, they can glue their ingredients into their juice cup worksheet.
Variations: Once students have collected all of the ingredients they need, before they glue each fruit into their glass, have them color each fruit. If time allows, have the students present their juice recipe to the class, "My/Our juice has..."
