Brief Outline: Like the American TV game show, students guess the prices of toys from the ALT's country.
Materials Needed (not included):
Ten or more pictures of toys for sale at a store in the ALT’s country. Internet sales pages of major toy stores are a good place find these. It’s a good idea to choose toys that the students will likely be familiar with.
Detailed Explanation:
After splitting the class into groups, briefly discuss the currency in the ALT’s country.
Show a picture and have each group make a guess at the price in the currency of the ALT’s country and write down each groups guess on the board.
- Then, reveal the actual price. Give points to teams that guessed close.
- Continue as long as your supply of pictures lasts, or students’ interest holds.
Teaching Suggestions:
The actual prices of the toys are not important, but be sure to choose items with prices that fall within the target number range.
For older students, give an approximate exchange rate to the Japanese yen.
