What Time Is It, Mr. Wolf?
Submitted by: Elem ALT team Borrowed or inspired from: Genki English's website
Outline: This game is exactly like the 'Red light, green light' game. Students practice asking the time and listening to the ALT count while trying to make it across the room.
Teaching Suggestions: Procedure:
Students line up on the wall and yell out, "What time is it Mr. Wolf?" The wolf replies with a time between 1~12 o'clock. Note: this game only works well for the o'clock numbers.
After choosing a time, the wolf turns his back to the students and starts counting down, at which time the students start running (gym) or kimono-shuffling (classroom) towards the wolf trying to touch him without being caught.
When the wolf finishes counting, he/she turns around and everyone must be frozen. If the wolf sees anyone move they must go back to the start.
- If a student successfully touches the wolf, mayhem ensues. The wolf and the student who touched the wolf turn and try to tag people trying to run back to the start line. Any student touched turns to a wolf to help in the next round.
- The wolf can also say, "It's lunchtime," instead of a time, at which point he/she can chase the kids too.
- Game goes until only one player is left, everyone is exhausted or players lose interest.
Variations:
To have the students practice saying numbers instead of the question, reverse the process. Have the wolf ask the time and the students take turns saying, "It's ~ , Mr. Wolf!"
