Self-Introductions

Teaching Suggestions

Vocabulary Suggestions:

  • What's your name?  My name is ~.  Nice to meet you (too).

Lots of Movement:

  • Most activities involve movement around the classroom, so desks and chairs should be moved to the back of the class.

Japanese vs. Foreign Greetings:

  • The students should learn there is a difference in foreign greetings, specifically no bowing, eye contact and firm handshakes.

Show Good & Bad Examples:

  • When modeling the conversation for the students, show them a 'good' and 'bad' example of the targeted differences.  For example, demonstrate how spaghetti-arm handshakes are bad.  This will help make your lesson more interesting and keep the students' attention.
