Teaching Suggestions

Suggested Vocabulary:

  • Sunny, rainy, cloudy, snowy, windy, stormy, cold, cool, warm and hot.

Gestures to Self-Teach:
  • Use gestures to teach the target vocabulary.  Some of the students will probably already know the vocabulary.  Allowing students a chance to teach other students encourages student participation of all English levels.

Ideas for Gestures:

Sunny

Wiggle your fingers high above your head to show a sparkling sun.

Cloudy

Make a bubbly cloud-like oval with your arms, while making a State Puff Marshmellow Man face (Ghostbusters).

Rainy

While wiggling your fingers above your head, slowly let your arms fall.

Snowy

The snowy gesture is like the rain gesture but move your arms in a zig-zag motion.

Windy

While in a relaxed state, horizontally swing your arms from side-to-side.

Stormy

While spinning in a circle, flap your arms up and down violently.

Cold

Over-dramatically rub your arms up and down at a fast pace.

Cool

Slowly rub your arms.

Warm

Wipe your brow.

Hot

This gesture is a combination of wiping your brow and fanning your face with your other hand.
