Brief Outline: Students formulate questions and aim to accumulate as many signatures as they can in an amount of time.

Materials Needed:

  • Two different coloured pieces of paper per student

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Designate a colour for the ‘questions’ and a colour for the ‘signatures’.
  2. Students write one or more questions on the designated paper according to grammar point being practiced or a topic.
  3. Explain the aim of the activity:
    • Students aim to get as many ENGLISH signatures as possible.
    • Students pair up and ask the other the questions on their paper. After the other student answers appropriately, they SWAP question papers.
    • Repeat the process until the time limit is up.
    • Give students a designated time, 10mins maximum to complete activity.
    • Get a survey of how students did in the activity, asking for number of signatures. Ask students their opinion of the activity, the easy and difficult points, what they liked and what they didn’t like, etc.

Variations:

  • Students only sign for a ‘yes’ answer.
  • Students need to add information to their answer to help with communication ability. Students also need to take a memo of the reply, like the underlined section in the following example.
    • Student A: ‘Do you play soccer?’
    • Student B: Yes I do. I play soccer on Saturday.

Cautions:

  • Students will run around and just get signatures without actually asking the question. The memo option helps this as students need to provide more information.
