5W & H Submitted by: Joyce P. Le Borrowed or inspired from: ALT resource book Date added: 01-09-08 Edited by: Fiona Steele
Brief Outline: Students practice asking and answering questions using the 5Ws and H question words.
Materials Needed:
Detailed Explanation: Listening: Read each question slowly and have the students dictate.
These questions can be used for the listening activity:
Do you know why Ichiro likes baseball?
Do you know what oden is?
Do you know when Christmas is?
Do you know who Takuya Kimura is?
Do you know where Disneyland is?
- Do you know how to say ‘konnichiwa’ in French?
Writing: Have the students answer each question. Students should write in complete sentences.
Speaking: Have students choose 5 of the questions and ask 5 different students/teachers. Do a role-play with the teacher. Tell students that during the interview, they can just take notes and not dwell over trying to write the answers in complete sentences.
Teaching Suggestions:
Review the questions words – who, what, when, where, why, how - prior to the activity.
