Brief Outline:  Students watch an episode of Mr. Bean and use this as a way to access both culture and recent grammar points.

Materials Needed:

  • Flashcards to help explain Mr Bean (optional)
  • BacktoSchoolMrBean worksheet
  • Back to School Mr. Bean DVD - you can rent the DVD from your local video store; it’s on disk 3.

  1. Before:
    • Talk about who Mr. Bean is, the style of his films - laugh track, no words, from England, etc.
    • Use flash cards to explain.

      • Mr. Bean was SCARED of the Judo teacher.
      • Mr. Bean BOUGHT a cake
      • His car was RUN OVER by an army truck
      • The car lock MADE him HAPPY

Variations and Options:

  • You can just make this a revision and use the ordered side

Cautions:

  • Make sure you edit out the parts you don’t think students should see.
  • This lesson takes a bit of viewing preparation. I used my computer hooked up to a projector which was easier to navigate than a DVD player.
