Brief Outline: Students play Chinese Whispers in their row to describe what should be added to their picture of a bedroom.
Materials Needed: - Pieces of A3 paper with simple bedroom scene (not included)
- Coloured markers
Detailed Explanation: - Students work in their seated rows.
- After giving each team a name or number, put a picture on the chalkboard directly in front of each team of an empty bedroom.
- Give the student at the back of the row a marker pen.
- Take students at the front of the row outside and give them a sentence: “There is a cat on the bed.”
- When ALT/JTE says, “go,” the student must whisper the sentence to the student behind them. This continues until the student holding the marker receives the sentence. They must run to the chalkboard and draw whatever has been described on their team’s picture.
- The fastest correct team receives a point.
- When the round is complete, the person at the front of the row moves to the back and everyone else moves one seat forward.
Variations and Options:
- Introduce a timer to the game.
- Use a different scene.
Tips or Cautions:
- This game gets loud. You could make a rule that students can’t talk unless they are passing the whisper. I like yelling though - as long as it is in English!
