Brief Outline: Students work together to interview one another and the ALT in order to resolve a given scenario.
Materials Needed:
CompanyMan worksheets: 01 & 02: Print and copy a blank worksheet from one of the scenarios, one for each group of students. Cut up the complete table from the scenario so that each interviewee has the strip of answers for their character. There should be 5 strips. Also, the ALT/JTE should decide which character on the worksheet is the answer before class.
Teaching Suggestions:
Create a scenario for the worksheet. For example, help the investigator find a crime, help find the lost student in the school, figure out who the ALT saw this weekend, etc.
Detailed Explanation:
The ALT introduces his/her chosen scenario. For example, look at CompanyMan02 worksheet.
- Choose a few students to be the interviewees. The number of interviewees is determined by the number of characters on the worksheet; there are five spaces for interviewees in the attachment below. Each interviewee is allocated one of the characters on the worksheet and therefore should only have the answer strip for that particular character.
The rest of the class will form groups and work together to ask the interviewees questions. Give a blank worksheet to each group.
Explain to the students that they will each ask the interviewee a question one at a time, and then go back to their group and share the answer until they have completed the entire worksheet.
- When they’ve interviewed all the witnesses/ interviewees, students ask the ALT questions about the mystery person to work out their identity. The ALT answers according to the character chosen prior to class. For example, "What is this student’s favorite food/ sports/ school subject/ place?"
